**Sky High Sports believes…..
ALL children are wonderful blessings from God
ALL children should have equal opportunities to play
ALL children, coaches, and refs should be praised, not criticized
ALL adults need to strive to be good role models for the children
During a Sky High Sports practice, your child will be presented a devotion that will include a short discussion, a Bible verse, and a prayer.
During a Sky High Sports game, there will be a half-time devotion presented in various ways in conjunction with Scripture.
Before every game, players are introduced and run to the center of the field.  After player introductions, the players, coaches and refs meet and have prayer.  Friends and Family are invited to join them.

KEY VERSE: James 1:19
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,  (20) because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
*note: italicized and bold part is thee part of the verse your child will memorize.  If your child completes this part, then we will add the next part  (verse 20)of the verse.
Practice 1- March 15/16- Get to know each other and talk about what we will be doing this soccer season.
Practice 2-March 22/23- Quick to Listen–Tonight coaches will use large ‘ears’ to help players remember to be Quick to Listen.  Hold the ears over your ears and repeat the part of the verse “Everyone should be quick to listen”. Talk about what quick to listen means and why it is important.  At the end of the discussion, give the ears to the players to hold over their ears and say ,”Quick to Listen”. End with prayer
Practice 3- March 29/30– Review Quick to Listen from last week- Tonight we are talking about the meaning of Easter!  Use the Jelly Beans I give you.  Only give one color at a time to each player and discuss the meaning of each  color:
Purple- this is a dark color because hearts are dark with sin
Yellow- God sent Jesus to earth and His light shines bright
Red- Jesus shed His blood on the cross for each of us–tomorrow is Good Friday- that is when Jesus was crucified on the cross
Orange- Like the sun, God’s Son rose from the tomb on the 3rd day- that’s why we celebrate Easter
Green-Through Jesus, my life can be fresh and new (relate it to new leaves on trees, green grass we see right now, etc…)
Review memory verse: “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen”  James 1:19
Practice 4- April 12/13– Review “Quick to Listen” then go on to “Slow to Speak”.
Squeeze toothpaste onto a plate.  Ask a player to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Of course, this is impossible.  Just as it is not possible to put the toothpaste back in the tube, it is not possible to put our spoken words back into our mouth.  Being slow to speak helps us to not say things we shouldn’t say or helps us not hurt someone’s feelings.
Review James 1:19 then close with prayer.
Practice 5- April 19/20– Review Slow to speak , then go on to Slow to Anger.  Talk about what happens when a person gets angry.  Ask players what makes them angry.
Put baking soda in glass, then add vinegar.  The bubbles will spew up and overflow from the glass.  This is what anger does.  It bubbles up and spews out, often making a mess of things.  Being slow to anger is very important every day of our lives.  Ask players to share ideas on how to be slow to anger.
Review James 1:19 then close with prayer.
Practice 6- April 26/27– Review Slow to Anger, slow to speak, quick to listen.  Talk about a traffic light and what green, yellow and red means. Relate the colors to the 3 concepts.  Ask players to tell you a time they were slow to speak this week.
Make a traffic light with a craft stick and 3 colored stickers.  Ask for volunteers to say the James 1:19 without help. Close by saying the verse together and prayer.
